The NEET exam, conducted annually by the NTA, offers around 108,000 MBBS seats, with approximately 56,000 in government and 52,000 in private colleges. Scores also determine admissions to other medical courses like Dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha.
While transitioning NEET to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) has been previously discussed, recent paper leak controversies have intensified the push for exam reforms. To address these concerns, the government established a panel in July to enhance the transparency and fairness of NTA-conducted exams.
The Radhakrishnan panel, investigating exam irregularities, proposed multi-stage NEET-UG with defined thresholds, scoring, and attempt limits. This follows concerns over NEET leaks and the cancellation of UGC-NET and other exams due to integrity breaches. The panel, including experts from various fields, will review security protocols and recommend improvements to ensure fair and transparent examinations.
